Craft beer in Bangkok

The scene

Bangkok's craft beer scene was largely an underground import-trade affair until Thailand relaxed its onerous brewing licenses in 2017. The result has been a fast-growing wave of Thai craft breweries (Burbrit, Mahanakhon, Stone Head, Outlaw, Sandport) alongside a deep import-bar culture serving European, American, and Japanese craft. Sukhumvit Road is the spine of the scene — most taprooms cluster within walking distance of BTS Skytrain stations from Nana east through Phrom Phong, Thong Lor, Ekkamai, and Phra Khanong. The old town (Phra Nakhon, near Khao San) has a smaller but characterful pocket of newer Thai-craft-focused bars.

Getting around & local context

BTS Skytrain is the easiest way to get between districts — most craft spots are within 5-10 minutes' walk of a station. Cash is widely accepted but card payments work everywhere serious. Local Thai craft tends to be priced reasonably (THB 200-300/pint); imports run higher. Look for late-evening crowds — most bars don't fill up until 8-9 PM.
