Craft beer in São Paulo

The scene
São Paulo's craft beer scene took off in the 2010s alongside Brazil's broader artisanal movement. Vila Madalena (the bohemian district) and Pinheiros are the densest brewpub clusters — São Paulo Tap House, Beer Island, Ambar Craft Beers. East Zone Tap Room (bronze winner at Brasil Beer Cup 2022) and Trilha (with wood-fired pizza) are smaller standouts. Cervejoteca in Vila Mariana is reputedly Brazil's biggest international beer bottle shop. The scene leans heavily into IPAs but Brazilian breweries also experiment with fruit beers using local produce.

Practical
Getting around & local context
Metro covers Vila Madalena/Pinheiros. Uber is cheap and often more practical. Most brewpubs open afternoon and run very late (1-2am weekends). Brazilian craft pricing has gotten high (R$25-35 per pour, ~$5-7 USD) but flights are reasonable. Most places add 10% service charge automatically. Some bars also charge a couvert/cover — watch for surprise charges.
