The scene
Czechia drinks more beer per capita than any country on earth, and Prague's beer scene reflects that depth. Pilsner Urquell (the original pilsner, brewed in Plzeň since 1842) anchors the traditional side — every traditional pub has it on tap, often pulled at near-perfection. The modern craft scene grew up in the 2010s around BeerGeek, Sibeeria, and a handful of others. Self-pour tap rooms (you pay per centiliter via card-controlled taps) are a Prague signature. The bottle shop scene is excellent and cheap by European standards.

14 self-pour taps with card-controlled pricing — pay-as-you-pour. 300 Kč loaded on the card gets you about 3 pints. Genuine Czech craft + a few classics. Fantastic concept for sampling broadly. Great social atmosphere.

Monastery-brewed beer in a beautiful restaurant beside Strahov Library. The dark lager is the move. Goulash soup with cheese-bread on top is the food legend. Pair the visit with the famous library and overlook. Book ahead at peak.

Modern craft taproom with rotating Czech and international beer. Server Jan is the staff favorite. Menu posted on Untappd. Card-friendly. Cozy and lively in equal measure — the rest of the night after a serious craft session.

Tiny new Karlín tap bar — 8 carefully chosen lines + a takeaway can fridge. Local craft focus, top-tier bar snacks. Limited seating, gets crowded. Closed weekends (oddly), but a top weeknight pick.

U Kunštátů - Craft Beer Old Town
Massive craft beer selection in the Old Town. The 6-beer tasting board is the signature — tell them your style and they curate. Medieval cellar below available to visit. Pub food + sausages. The Old Town craft anchor.

Practical
Getting around & local context
Metro + tram cover everything. Czech beer is cheap (Kč 50-90/pour, ~$2-4 USD). Most pubs open 11am-11pm/midnight. Smoking has been banned indoors since 2017 — much more pleasant than the old days. Don't ignore the dark lagers (tmavé) at traditional pubs — they're often the unsung heroes.
