Craft beer in Paris

The scene

France was late to the craft beer party — wine culture dominates — but Paris's scene has matured rapidly. The 11ème arrondissement (Bastille/Charonne area) is the densest cluster: Beer Paris, Cuves de Fauve, Hop Malt Market. Paname Brewing Company on the Canal de l'Ourcq (19ème) is the canal-side flagship brewery. Bottle shops are excellent — Hop Malt Market and BOOTLEGGER both highly curated. French craft leans hop-forward (American influence) but also produces local-style saisons and farmhouse ales using French malt traditions.

Getting around & local context

Métro covers everything — most craft places near Bastille (Line 1/5/8), Père Lachaise (Line 2/3), or Jaurès (Line 2/5/7B). Most spots open afternoon and run late (1-2am). Pricing reasonable (€6-9 per pour, slightly higher than wine). Sundays many places open. Order in French if you can — staff appreciates it but English is widely spoken.
