Craft beer in Montreal

The scene

Quebec produces more craft beer per capita than any other Canadian province, and Montreal is the showcase. The Old Port (Vieux-Montréal) clusters several brewpubs in walking distance — BreWskey runs three connected venues here. Beyond Old Port, MABRASSERIE (Rosemont, a cooperative of multiple breweries) is a major destination, and 4 Origines in Pointe-Saint-Charles. The Plateau hosts the legendary La Maison des Bières bottle shop. Quebec craft tilts strongly French — saisons, witbiers, Belgian-influenced — alongside the American IPA wave.

Getting around & local context

STM Metro + STM buses cover the city. Old Port is walkable end-to-end. Quebec beer is reasonably priced (CA$8-10 per pour). French is the working language but English universally fine at craft places. SAQ (provincial liquor monopoly) handles wine/spirits but private bottle shops handle beer. Most spots open afternoon, run until 11pm-midnight.
