Craft beer in Buenos Aires

The scene

Argentina's craft beer scene grew rapidly during the 2010s — and Buenos Aires has the largest concentration. Palermo is the densest cluster of brewpubs and beer bars; the neighborhoods of Villa Crespo, Chacarita, and Caballito host smaller indie operations. Argentine craft tilts heavily toward IPAs (NEIPAs especially), with traditional German and Belgian styles appearing widely. The 2020s economic situation has made imported beer scarce/expensive but local craft remains affordable. Beer Cellar in Palermo is reputedly the best bottle shop in the country.

Getting around & local context

Subte (subway) + buses cover most of the city. Pricing fluctuates wildly with inflation; expect to pay AR$2000-4000 (~$2-4 USD) per pour but check current rates. Most brewpubs open 5pm onward, run very late (1-2am). DaLí Brewery is reportedly the standout — many Brazilians/Chileans visit specifically for it. Argentina runs on cash + Mercado Pago — bring some.
